Great First Installment

Haven: A Stranger Magic - D.C. Akers

The opening chapter jumps right into things compelling the reader to find out what is going on. The next chapter makes a halt, and it continues slowly till the ending chapters where it picks up again. While it is slower moving for the middle chapters, it is so with a purpose. It builds up the story and creates a relationship between the reader and the characters. The ending leaves the reader wanting to know what is happening in regards to Sam, his family, and their past.

It is written in third person, mostly from the point of view of Sam. I found that while I loved the story line the writing threw me off a bit. There were some grammar and spelling mistakes, and some of the paragraphs seemed like they could have been organized better. While I enjoyed the story sometimes I found myself mentally editing.
